Jean Balfour Resume
Jean Balfour paints under her maiden name of Jean Drew and has painted in water colours through most of her life. Jean grew up in Highland Perthshire and took an Honours degree in Botanical Sciences at Edinburgh University. She has worked as a land manager and forester mainly on the family estates and has also had several public and government appointments. These included The Chairmanship of the Countryside Commission for Scotland and President of The Royal Scottish Forestry Society. Jean also has a long-term love and interest in the countryside and remote areas and has spent time in the Arctic studying plants and landscape. This is expressed in her landscape paintings which are largely in Scotland as in this exhibition.
